On the North Carolina coast, we have "outer banks"-- pencil-thin islands of sand and up-scale cottages--some extending as much as 20 miles out into the
Atlantic. Because of this unusual geography, our state actually has TWO strips of ocean-front property, the inner strip sometimes is called the "Inner Banks". One of the towns that is particularly proud of it's Inner Banks location and culture is Washington, NC. Nearly every home in the historic part of this city begs to be painted-- some of them grand, some quite humble, but all charming. This little blue house (on 2nd Street, I believe) caught my attention and became the first of many that I have painted--and sold!-- in this picturesque town. I just can't wait to get back and paint more!
